What agent framework comparisons miss: recovery time and proof of completed work: Judge agent stacks by rehearsed recovery and reconciled task outcomes; treat search snippets as leads pending source verification.. Buyers will trust agent workflows that prove sources, tool boundaries, validation, and recovery. getagentiq.ai

AI agents are moving beyond chat. The useful shift is from answers to bounded workflows: clear inputs, explicit permissions, human review and a record of what changed. That makes automation easier to trust and improve.

Procurement AI works best when it links ERP purchase orders, receipts, invoices and contract terms. Flag off-contract spend and price drift early, then route exceptions to a named finance owner with evidence attached.

The most useful question to ask before giving an AI agent access to a business system is not “How clever is it?”

It is: “What can it change, and how would we know?”

An agent that drafts a reconciliation note has a very different risk profile from one that can post a journal. Both may use the same model. The difference is the authority wrapped around it.

Consider a finance workflow. An agent reads an exception report, matches transactions and proposes an adjustment. That can save a person time. But the design should make the hand-off visible:

• Which source records did it use?
• What rule or instruction drove its recommendation?
• What did it leave unresolved?
• Who approved the proposed change?
• What actually changed in the system, and when?

If those answers are hard to retrieve, the workflow is not ready for broader autonomy.

This is why “human in the loop” needs more precision. A human asked to click Approve on an unexplained output is not exercising meaningful control. Give them the source data, the proposed action and the reason for it. Let them reject or amend it. Record the decision.

Then expand the agent’s permissions only when the evidence supports it. Start with read access and drafts. Measure accuracy and exceptions. Introduce bounded write actions with clear limits, an audit trail and a way to reverse mistakes.

The goal is not to keep AI away from operational work. It is to make operational work safer as AI takes on more of it.

Where would you draw the line between an agent recommending a finance change and making one?

Finance transformation rarely stalls because the team cannot produce another spreadsheet. It stalls because work, ownership and controls are spread across too many systems.

Consider a finance operations use case: incoming requests about cost centres, supplier changes, journal support and reporting access. An AI assistant could classify the request, retrieve the relevant policy, identify the system of record and route it to the right owner. That sounds simple. In practice, the value depends on whether the underlying process is clear enough to automate safely.

Before adding AI, I would ask four questions:

1. Who owns each decision, and which decisions require a human sign-off?
2. Is the source data reliable across the ERP, workflow and reporting layers?
3. Can every recommendation be traced to a policy, transaction or approved master-data record?
4. What happens when the assistant is uncertain or finds conflicting evidence?

The strongest starting point is often a narrow workflow with a measurable baseline: time to triage, number of hand-offs, rework rate and exceptions escalated. Keep approval rights with accountable people. Log the evidence behind each recommendation. Then compare the pilot with the baseline before widening the scope.

That is where finance systems experience matters. AI can speed up routing and information retrieval, but it cannot repair ambiguous ownership, inconsistent master data or a weak control design. Fix those foundations and the technology has a much better chance of improving service without making the audit trail harder to follow.
