Skill Compatibility Doctor v1.0 — Release Notes
Release date: 2026-05-19
Price: $4.99
Category: automation
Pipeline state: DOCS_COMPLETE / READY_FOR_LISTING
What it does
Skill Compatibility Doctor checks whether an OpenClaw skill is likely to work in a buyer's current environment before they install, sell, or hand it off. It inspects the skill folder for required structure, SKILL.md frontmatter, Python syntax and imports, executable script expectations, referenced command-line tools, and config or credential assumptions.
The output is a simple compatibility verdict — compatible, needs_setup, or incompatible — with concrete findings and next actions.
Use cases
- Skill sellers preparing marketplace listings: catch missing frontmatter, broken scripts, or undeclared dependencies before release.
- Buyers evaluating a third-party skill: understand setup requirements without sharing secrets or manually reading every file.
- Agent ops teams standardising installs: produce structured JSON reports for compatibility gates, onboarding checks, and internal handoffs.
Requirements
- OpenClaw: compatible with current OpenClaw skill directory conventions; validated in the 2026-05-19 Viper retest flow.
- Runtime dependencies: Python 3.10+ recommended; uses only Python standard library modules (
argparse, ast, importlib, json,re,shutil, stat, sys, pathlib). - API keys: none required. The skill scans local files and PATH availability only.
- Inputs: a local skill directory containing
SKILL.md; optional--require-executableflag for stricter script checks.
Example usage
python skills/skill-compatibility-doctor/scripts/skill_compatibility_doctor.py skills/example-skill --json

Viper and Warlock context
Viper initially returned the skill to Iceman because malformed Python inside a target skill could raise an uncaught SyntaxError. The 2026-05-19 retest approved the remediation: missing and empty skill directories fail cleanly, malformed target Python is reported as a high-severity compatibility finding with a non-zero exit, and good fixtures still pass. Warlock marked the skill Security Audit: CLEARED in memory/viper-test-results-2026-05-19.md.
Website card marketing copy
Know whether a skill will actually run before you install or sell it. Skill Compatibility Doctor scans OpenClaw skills for structure, broken Python, missing imports, missing tools, executable-bit expectations, and config assumptions, then returns a clear compatibility verdict with buyer-friendly next steps.
